Recently Utah Wool has been asked to explain how we started and how we operate.  Here is a little bit about us.

Utah Wool Marketing Association was formed in 1926 by a group of sheep producers as a cooperative to assist producers in gathering and marketing their wool.  We are a non-profit that works on a service at cost basis.  Meaning we only charge enough to keep ourselves in business as a service to our members and customers.  We do not collect a profit at any time, any additional funds we may have at the end of the year goes back into the business to make improvements.  At no time does any member collect a stipend just because they market their wool with us.

Utah Wool Marketing Assoc. has a 9 member volunteer Board of Directors that oversee the cooperative.  They serve staggered 3 year terms and are elected by the members.  The Board is made up of Sheep Producers that believe keeping a Wool Marketing Agent in Utah is essential and want to see us continue. 

Membership in Utah Wool Marketing Association is only $20.00 per year and this entitles the individual or company to an invitation to our annual membership meeting and a vote for who should serve on the Board of Directors.

Utah Wool sells shearing supplies (bags, clips, paint, sheep hooks) at just over our cost as a service to the producer.  We make a slim profit on these items just to cover the handling of them.  They are not a money maker for the cooperative. Please be aware that we will no longer provide credit on wool supplies. All supplies must be paid for at the time of acquisition.

The Wool Market for 2024 is still very volatile and prices have stayed low. Please call us before arriving to check current market conditions. Growers are welcome to bring wool to the warehouse to be stored on consignment until the wool market improves.
